The National Energy Regulatory Council (NERC) has resumed the procedures for the second offshore wind farm development tender. On September 8, the procedures were temporarily suspended following a Government decision, but it was foreseen that they would resume on October 6. Starting today, participants may submit their documents for the tender until and inlcuding October 7 \u2013 a two-day window in total.<\/strong><\/p>

The winner of the tender will be selected based on the most advantageous proposal \u2013 either the lowest requested annual amount of potential support or, if no support is requested, the highest development fee that the winner commits to pay to the state.<\/p>

Following the assessment of participants' compliance with tender requirements and the verification of the best bidder's compliance with national security interests, the winner is expected to be announced in the second half of December this year.<\/p>

NERC is responsible for organizing the tender and selecting the winner (preparing the terms of reference, organizing the committee's work, and making the decision on the winner). The Tender Committee consists of two representatives from NERC and one representative delegated by each of the following: Ministry of Energy, the Competition Council, the Lithuanian Energy Agency, Vilnius University and Kaunas University of Technology.<\/p>

This is the second tender aimed at selecting developers for a 700-megawatt offshore wind farm.<\/p>

This offshore wind farm project will be developed in an area of approximately 136 km\u00b2 and will be located about 30 km from the coast. It is estimated that offshore wind farms will meet up to half of Lithuania's electricity needs and reduce the country's dependence on electricity imports.<\/p>
