Taking into account the results of the second offshore wind farm tender held this spring and the prevailing market trends, the Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament) has approved amendments to the tender conditions for offshore wind farms. The tender will be considered successful if at least one participant takes part. According to the adopted amendments, a tender organized by the National Energy Regulatory Council will be considered successful if at least one participant takes part in it. Until now, there was a requirement for at least two developers to participate in the auction.<\/strong><\/p>

The majority of the Seimas agreed that the sale price of electricity could be recalculated annually, taking into account market developments, while at the same time changing the amount of state support.<\/p>

The registration period will be longer - 120 calendar days instead of the previously planned 90. The possibility to extend the registration period by 30 calendar days has also been removed.\u00a0<\/p>

To reduce Lithuania\u2019s dependence on electricity imports and to achieve full self-sufficiency in domestic renewable electricity by 2030, the Ministry of Energy is planning two offshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 1.4 GW in the Baltic Sea in the territory of Lithuania. These farms could generate around 6 TWh of green electricity per year, which is around half of current electricity demand of Lithuania.<\/p>

The date of the new tender should be decided by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.<\/p>
