Plans for offshore wind farm connections to land are presented to the public

At the meeting of the Kretinga District Municipality Council, national renewable energy development goals were presented and information was provided about the planned engineering solutions for connecting two offshore wind farms to onshore grids.

"Our state has set ambitious plans - to produce 100 percent of the energy we need by 2028, and all of it should be renewable. We see a production potential of 4.5 GW at sea, and more attention is currently being paid to two offshore wind farm projects, the capacity of which could be 700 MW each. We already know the winner of the tender for one farm, and the procedures for the other tender are currently being improved," said Airidas Daukšas, Vice Minister of Energy.

According to him, it is important to present offshore wind territorial planning documents in the municipalities involved in the projects.

About two-thirds of the project's engineering infrastructure up to the 330 kV Darbėnai electricity switchyard could be located in the Kretinga district.

At the meeting, representatives of the company "Ardynas" presented the specific solutions of the territorial planning document for the connection of two offshore wind farms to onshore grids and answered questions from council members and residents.

The planned offshore wind park connections are planned through the territories of Palanga city and Kretinga district municipalities. More detailed information on the prepared specific solutions can be found on the ministry's website in the Announcements section. We inform you about the prepared project of special national importance:  "Preparation of the territories necessary for connecting power plants using renewable energy resources, planned to be developed in the part(s) of the territorial sea of the Republic of Lithuania and (or) the exclusive economic zone of the Republic of Lithuania in the Baltic Sea, to electricity transmission networks, for the development of engineering infrastructure" engineering infrastructure development plan.

Proposals for specific solutions can be submitted to the planning organizer - the Ministry of Energy - during the entire period of familiarization with the solutions until the end of the public meeting - from January 6, 2025 to March 7, 2025.

A public meeting, during which the solutions will be presented, will be held on March 7, 2025 at 3 p.m. at the premises of the Ministry of Energy (room 213, Gedimino pr. 38, Vilnius). A live online video broadcast of the public meeting is planned.

Representatives of the Ministry of Energy and the Lithuanian Energy Agency also met with residents of the Darbėnai subdistrict. They were presented with the plans for the offshore wind farm connection to the 330 kV Darbėnai electricity switchyard.
