Litgrid announces the preliminary connection conditions for the connection of wind farms in the offshore area (developed with state support (contract for differences (CFD)) to the electricity transmission network.

Lithuania's offshore wind farms is one of the most important Lithuanian energy independence projects. It will significantly increase the production of electricity from renewable energy sources, thus reducing Lithuania's dependence on electricity imports and ensuring low electricity prices for residents.

The offshore wind farm, which will begin to operate in 2028 in the part of the exclusive economic zone of the Republic of Lithuania in the Baltic Sea near Palanga with a capacity of approximately 700 MW, is expected to generate up to 3 TWh of green electricity per year in the Baltic States, which would meet up to a quarter of Lithuania’s electricity demand. The offshore wind farm is also expected to attract more than EUR 1 billion in investments and create at least 1,300 new jobs. The area of the territory planned for the offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea is approximately 137.5 km 2 . The farm will be about 30 kilometres from the shore.
